wsftp

Many people use the authoring tools that are built into their browser or some other software package (Netscape Composer or Front Page), it seems that they have problems with the built in FTP functions these programs provide. There are any number of standalone FTP programs available. I have had the best results with the one used in this example.
Download WS_FTP.

NOTE: Ipswitch has restricted use of WS_FTP LE to "Educational" use only making it harder for home users to qualify to download it. However. I found the link above on "GOOGLE".
(This page was put together mainly for those in my local area who use MWT as their Internet Service Provider (ISP) , but can be used a guide for others as well.)

Setting up a new Session:
Click on the "New" button and then enter the required information.
  • Profile Name = (anything you like)
  • Host Name/Address = ftp.mwt.net *
  • User ID = (your user name)
  • Password = (your account password)
  • Save Pwd Check this box if you don't want to enter the password every time you use WS_FTP.
* NOTE: In some rare cases using "ftp.mwt.net" may not work. If this happens, change the line to "www.mwt.net".

If you are not an MWT user, the information will be different. However the process will be the same. Contact your ISP for details.

Click on the Startup tab and enter the following information.
  • Initial Remote Site Folder = Enter the line exactly as shown except for the circled part, which has to be your user name.
  • Initial Local Folder = Enter the location, on your computer, of your files.

When you are finished entering your information click on the "OK" button.

At this point you should be looking at a window similar to the one below. This is the window used to transfer files to and from the server.
  • Highlight the files you want to transfer (copy) to the server. (click each file while holding the Ctrl key down)
  • Click the arrow between the panels to transfer the files.
  • Be sure Auto is checked.

This information should be enough to get you started. I'd suggest you look into the help file in the WS_FTP LE program for more details.
